Process Securisation | Explosion
Application
Sugar manufacturing, especially mechanical conveying, screening, spraying, storage and packaging are operations that emit explosive dust. The production equipment and silos, conveyors and other dust collectors must be properly secured to reduced risks from fire or explosion; Also, fugitive dust emissions must be minimized to reduce accumulations and thus eliminate the risk of second deflagration (explosive dusts).
Objectives
- Control of the factory dust accumulation
- Explosion preventions
Challenges Resolved
Significant reduction of explosion risk level especially in the packaging industry | Development of “special” cleaners teams responsible for household factory maintenance | Training for all staff | Respect of the Quebec regulations (ROHS) | Planning for actions to be taken following the explosion in IMPERIAL SUGAR (USA)
